Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a series of crimes carried out in Edinburgh over a three-day period.

Uniformed officers, based at Gayfield police station traced a 23-year-old man as part of their inquiries into an assault and robbery carried out within the Waverley Mall on Sunday, July 3rd.

After further investigation, officers from the Violence Reduction Unit later charged him with an attempted robbery in West Richmond Street and an assault and robbery in Nicolson Street, which were carried out on the afternoon of Friday, July 1st. A 20-year-old man was also traced and charged with both offences.

Detective Constable Iain Wallace of the Violence Reduction Unit said: “Needless to say that each incident was extremely distressing for the victims and I can assure them as well as the wider public that we are committed to swiftly tracing and arresting anyone involved in this sort of criminality

“Two males have now been charged in connection with these offences and will appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court in due course.”
