Hibs’ youngster Scott Martin accepts that it will be difficult for him to retain his place in the midfield due to the quality of midfielders available to Neil Lennon,  but he was delighted to start against Falkirk yesterday and even more delighted to claim the three points.

Martin actually started in Hibs’ first team last year under Alan Stubbs before moving to Forfar Athletic on loan and he says that he owes a lot to John McGinn and his other team-mates for their advice and encouragement.

Even with established players Fraser Fyvie and Dylan McGeouch missing through injury, it was still a surprise for the travelling support to hear the teenagers name instead of Marvin Bartley.

Speaking after the game to Hibs TV, he said: “The boys are delighted to get three points. It’s a hard place to come, Falkirk were excellent, but I thought we were the better side and the result went in our favour.

“We had a great start and absorbed the pressure well and overall we deserved to win the game.

We did well in the last 20 minutes when we had to dig deep and I understand why I came off. Big Marv (Marvin Bartley) did well when he came on.

“He (Neil Lennon) told me yesterday that he was thinking of starting me and that was to get my head around starting and I’m just thankful to the gaffer for showing a bit of faith in me and what I can do.

John McGinn spoke to me about it a couple of days ago about his experiences and what people told him when he was given a chance, so he’s given me a few words of wisdom and a couple of others have spoken to me too.

“It’ll always be a test to try and keep my place in the team because of how many good midfielders we’ve got. We’ve got a top class midfield.”
