Two teenagers have been arrested following an attempted murder in the early hours of the morning in Leith.

Police were called to a disturbance on Great Junction Street at around 2am this morning, Sunday 1st January 2017. A 30 year old man was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he remains in a critical condition.

The 16 year old and 18 year old males have been arrested in connection with the incident. They are expected to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.

Detective Inspector Graham Grant said: “A man is now gravely ill following this assault which happened in the early hours of New Year’s Day near a busy pub. Officers have been speaking to witnesses and people in the area today but we are still keen to hear from anyone else who may have seen what happened. It is being treated as an isolated incident.

“Officers will be carrying out additional patrols in Leith tonight to give further reassurance and provide people with an opportunity to give any further information. Alternatively call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
