Hibs could finally secure automatic promotion back to the top flight with a victory over Queen of the South at Easter Road next Saturday, depending on results elsewhere.

Hibs have four games left and currently sit on 61 points.

Second placed Falkirk are nine points behind. They face on-form St Mirren at home  next week and should Hibs win then any points dropped would mean that they would mathematically be unable to catch Neil Lennon’s men.

Even a victory for the Bairns coupled with a Hibs win would require a massive shift in goal difference over the last three games.

Morton are 11 points behind with a game in hand. They face neighbours St Mirren in Greenock on Tuesday night and need all three points to remain in contention.

Dundee United are 13 points behind but have also played one game less. They face Dunfermline at Tannadice on Wednesday knowing that anything other than a victory will end their slim hopes of the title.

Whatever happens, it now looks certain that Neil Lennon will achieve his objective of returning to the top division next year.
