Police have released an e-fit of a man who tried to steal a 71-year-old man’s Volkswagen Golf as he was washing it on his driveway on Stanley Place in Abbeyhill on Friday 5 May.

The suspect then tried to drive off in the car but was stopped by the victim’s wife after a struggle.

Officers today released an e-fit image of a man wanted in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable John Dunn from Police Scotland said: “As part of this inquiry we are keen to identify the male in the e-fit and he or anyone who recognises him is asked to contact police immediately.”

The suspect  is described as being white, between 5ft 10in to 6ft tall and in his late 20s to early 30s.

He is of a medium build with dark curly hair on top which is shaved at the sides and was wearing dark joggers, a dark t-shirt with lighter writing on the chest and a tattoo on his left forearm of a name in old style writing.

The man spoke with an Irish or northern Scottish accent.
