Dmitri Khristich has signed Mike Cazzola from Fort Wayne Komets

Edinburgh Capitals’ latest recruit Mike Cazzola revealed his move to Murrayfield has been a year in the making.

The 26-year-old arrives from ECHL side Fort Wayne Komets where he was named in the Rookie Team of the Year.

Cazzola said: “I’ve been in touch with the Capitals for over a year. I’ve heard great things about the club and city and obviously I am aware of Head Coach Dmitri Khristich and the plans for the club.

“I’m looking to make an immediate impact on the ice for the club and I’m excited to meet my team mates and the fans,”

Cazzola made 77 appearances for Fort Wayne in all competitions, scoring 33 goals and collecting 84 points finishing 11th overall in the ECHL for points scoring.

He’s previously played for Acadia University in the Canadian Interuniversity League and Erie Otters in the OHL putting up good numbers.

His move to Edinburgh also allows him to enrol at Queen Margaret University where he’ll study a two-year post graduate degree in physiotherapy.
