Edinburgh’s Lord Provost Frank Ross has today sent a message of condolence to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan in the wake of the devastating fire at a North Kensington tower block.

Writing on behalf of the people of Edinburgh, the Lord Provost said:

“Like so many people the length and breadth of the UK, I awoke this morning to the horrifying news of the devastating tower block fire in west London.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected – to all those who have lost loved ones, suffered injuries or lost their homes in this terrible blaze.
“Yet again, the emergency services have surpassed themselves by the speed of their response and the incredible courage they’ve shown in rushing to the aid of those in danger.
“Just as Londoners rallied round to offer support and accommodation in the wake of the London Bridge attacks, the community is once again pulling together magnificently to help and comfort those in need. As citizens of London’s fellow Capital, we in Edinburgh today pay tribute to the bravery, compassion and fortitude of everyone responding to this appalling incident.”
