Ahead of its final show, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo brought together a selection of military women taking part in this year’s event in recognition of 100 years of women in the Armed Forces. This year marks the centenary of the formation of the Women’s Army Auxillary Corps and the formation of the Women’s Royal Navy Service.

Members of the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment, The Massed Bands of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, 154 Scottish Regiment Royal Logistics Corps and the Royal Navy gathered in the grounds of Edinburgh Castle, the iconic home of the Tattoo, to honour the milestone anniversary year. Amongst the group was Sgt Hilary Rosenthal, the first female musician to be appointed to the position of Deputy Drum Major within RAF Music since the Women’s Royal Air Force Band was disbanded.

Over the past 100 years, British females have served alongside men in almost 50 wars and conflicts, including World War One and World War Two.
