Political turmoil in Spain this week with Catalonians claiming the right to a referendum on independence which the Spanish government in turn claim is unlawful, all makes this film festival  rather timely.

The aim of the festival which runs to the end of the month is to support Spanish cinema which in recent times has struggled to find funding. Its Edinburgh base is at The Filmhouse where the fourth festival begins tomorrow.

There are a couple of events as well as films. We particularly like the look of the Gastronomic Event at the University of Edinburgh on 11 October 2017 when there will be a screening of The Balance of Opposites along with  a Q & A with Michelin star chef Javier Olleros and director Alberto Baamonde. There will be wine and tapas afterwards! Tickets here
