Pupils deliver Christmas gifts to Cramond Residence

Pupils at Cramond Primary School delivered Christmas presents to people living with dementia and their carers as part of a local gift appeal for the elderly.

Gifts were delivered to the Cramond Dementia and Carers Lunch Club by Primary Seven pupils at the club’s Christmas lunch. The Christmas Gift Appeal was organised by local care home, Cramond Residence, which is set to open next year.

Throughout December gifts will also be delivered to elderly members of the community living in isolation, as well as members of the Almond Mains Initiative, a lunch club for elderly people living in Cramond, Barnton, Almond, Cammo, Davidson’s Mains, and Silverknowes.

Dorothy Brown, client relationship manager at Cramond Residence, commented: “We have been completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the community which has donated a huge amount to our gift appeal for the elderly.

“The Cramond Dementia and Carers Lunch Club and Almond Mains Initiative are both doing great work in providing a place where elderly people can socialise and feel part of our community. It is a pleasure to be able to spread some Christmas cheer to their members with the help from pupils at Cramond Primary.”

Helen Donaldson, head teacher at Cramond Primary School, added: “All Cramond pupils from P1-P7 have created a special Christmas card with a carefully worded message, entitled ‘to a friend in Cramond, from a friend in Cramond.’

“We are ever keen to develop intergenerational links in the local community and have reached out to Cramond Residence, Almond Mains Initiative and the Cramond Dementia and Carers Lunch Club. Our pupils have loved the opportunity to spend time with our elderly neighbours and learn from them at the clubs.

“We want everyone to know, whatever their age, that they have a friend at Cramond Primary.”

Managed exclusively by Walker Healthcare, Cramond Residence will offer some of the best in personalised nursing and residential care for older people, in luxurious and comfortable surroundings.

Due to be finished in spring 2018, the residence will include 74 en-suite bedrooms and a wide range of lounge, dining, and activities rooms, and beautifully landscaped gardens.
