Christine Jardine, MP for Edinburgh West, is at the centre of efforts to reverse the injustice to women born in the 1950s caused by pension reforms.

Ms Jardine and a cross party group of MPs launched a consultation, which will help formulate proposals for transitional arrangements for women disproportionately affected by pension reforms.

An estimated six thousand women in Edinburgh West have been affected by the changes which left women with inadequate time to prepare for their retirement, leading to financial difficulty and hardship.

Christine Jardine said: “These women have suffered a gross injustice as a result of government mismanagement and poor communication.

“It’s time this government recognised that tens of thousands of women, whose only mistake is to have been born in the 1950s, have had their retirement plans ruined and in many cases are facing hardship,  because the state pension age was changed without adequate warning.

“This consultation will show us exactly what is involved and what is needed to ensure these women get the deal they deserve.”
