Following their defeat from Motherwell in the William Hill Scottish Cup, Hearts have been dealt another blow with the news that on-loan defender Demetri Mitchell has been ruled out for around eight weeks after suffering a knee injury.

The 21-year-old has returned to his parent club Manchester United for treatment and with his loan deal only up until the end of this season, there is a distinct possibility Mitchell won’t be seen in a maroon shirt again.

Mitchell has impressed with his pace and tactical awareness in his short spell in Gorgie and his absence is another set back for Hearts who face Hibernian in the Ladbrokes Premiership at Easter Road this Friday evening. On a more positive note, captain Christophe Berra should be fit to play in that game. The Scotland defender received a head knock during the cup defeat at Fir Park on Sunday, but tests have shown he did not suffer concussion meaning he is set to face the Hibees.

Meanwhile out of favour goalkeeper Viktor Noring has left Hearts and is believed to have returned to Sweden. The 27-year-old has only made three first team appearances and the club have agreed to let him go.
