Neil Lennon has thanked the supporters who have backed the team this season.

In the week that season tickets went on sale for the 2018/19 campaign, Lennon spoke of his satisfaction with performances this season, and his hope that the progress continues into next season.

After winning promotion last season, many were prepared for a campaign of consolidation however Hibs have exceeded expectation by challenging for a European place and the supporters have played their part with the biggest average attendance for many years.

Fans who measure their success against neighbours Hearts are delighted to be nine points clear with a game in hand although the Gorgie side won the Scottish Cup tie at Tynecastle.

He said: “The team can’t do it without the support. We have a duty and obligation to entertain as well – that’s part of football. Ultimately the end game is to win the game. Sometimes you can play poorly and win, and your weekend is good.

“Sometimes you play brilliantly and lose. Your weekend is good but it hurts a little bit. But when the team puts it all together and you see the connection between the players and the supporters – the last home game against Aberdeen with 19,500 supporters, the respsonse the players gave to the fans and vice versa, that’s what I want.

“It’s difficult to produce that every week, there’s no question of that, but I think the players have made huge strides this season in adapting to the competition of the Premiership. Overcoming that and playing football that is easy on the eye, you’ve got to earn the right to do that and we’ve done that.”
