Jack Thomas has enjoyed a whirlwind start to his speedway career with Glasgow Tigers.

The 18-year-old signed last Tuesday and had not seen the Ashfield track until Thursday.

But the teenage prospect powered to two race wins in collecting seven valuable points as Tigers tamed rivals Edinburgh Monarchs.

The arch rivals meet at Armadale in the second-leg of the Scottish Cup on Friday with Glasgow enjoying a ten-point cushion after a 50-40 win in the first-leg.

Thomas, the fans Man of the Match, admitted: “I’m chuffed to bits. I didn’t really expect to be coming home with two, to be honest.

“It’s massive to get the heat wins but I’m back on my favourite engine, the one I rode when I first started riding. It’s just something else, I love it.”

The talented teenager from Norwich came in at the last minute at reserve after Jack Parkinson-Blackburn stepped away from the sport.

The youngster, who has ridden for Kent Kings in the National League for two seasons, is, however, not getting carried away.

He said: “I’m going to carry on and keep my cool. And keep my feet on the floor.

“I’m not going to pressure myself too much because that’s when you make mistakes.”

Meanwhile, Monarchs are also delighted with one of their newcomers, Matt Williamson.

The Bury-born, 25-year-old weighed in eight points and said: “I’m over the moon with my personal performance.”
