The second Scottish Walking Football League starts next month at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility.

The sport has really taken off throughout Scotland and details of sessions are available on the Walking Football Scotland website.

The charity launched in December at an event in Stirling attended by newly appointed ambassadors Craig Brown and Rose Reilly.

Craig was the last Scotland manager to take the team to a major tournament whilst Rose was a World Cup winner for Italy.

Last year, ten teams from throughout the country took part in the competition, organised by North Lanarkshire Leisure with support funding from North Lanarkshire NHS.

Hearts entered two teams into the league, both named after famous Cup-winning sides : Hearts ’56 and Hearts ’98.

Hearts ’56 secured top spot, with Hearts ’98 finishing as first runners-up despite a fantastic run of results which pushed the ’56 team to the very last round of games.

In recognition, Hearts invited the players to Tynecastle where they had their photo taken with Anne Budge. The fans also had their chance to show their appreciation when the team were invited onto the pitch at half time during the club’s Scottish Cup tie against St Johnstone.

The victorious Hearts ’56 squad featured Davie Barr, Jimmy Bremner, Brian Hymers, David McNab, Norman Campbell, Russell Brown, Chris Westwood and David Walkingshaw.
