Cameron Fraser capped a season of achievement by being voted Player of the Tournament as his club Grange reigned supreme in Europe.

The Dumfries-born midfielder had earlier skippered his club side to the EuroHockey Club Trophy in Vienna, Austria, on Monday.

They claimed the silverware with a 5-2 victory over Ukrainian combine HC OKS-SHVSM Vinnitsa in the Grand Final to earn gold.

It completed a historic treble for the Edinburgh side who narrowly missed out on the domestic Grand Slam.

They lost 3-1 to Dundee-based Grove Menzieshill in the play-off final at Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre after winning dramatically the Division One title for the first time since 2002 on the final day and the Scottish Cup for the sixth time.

And the former Cramond Primary and George Watson’s College pupil has also excelled for the international side, logging considerable air miles in representing Scotland, including playing in his second Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.

Fraser was in the side eight years ago in Delhi and he has showed the same guts and determination to succeed as his sporting hero, former Manchester United and Aberdeen football manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.

His sporting success is also mirrored off-pitch has the trainer joiner now runs a highly-successful kitchen fitting business.

The 29-year-old was a solid contributor for coach Derek Forsyth in the build-up to the recent Commonwealth Games.

And Fraser was in the squad which won the 2017 European Championship II which sparked their run to qualification for the Games.

Nicknamed Cammy, Fraser quietly goes about his business and does his talking on the pitch.

However, there is no doubting his contribution to Grange’s recent success and that of the international side.

Fraser was not the only Grange player to be recognised by the judges in Vienna as experienced goalkeeper Nathan Doherty was judged the best in his position in the tournament.

Now, Grange will have to build on their triple success but now have a well-earned break before they prepare to defend two domestic trophies.
