As part of Edinburgh’s College’s Glow Festival an exhibition showing off the work of students on the HND Costume for Stage and Screen course is being staged at Festival Theatre.

There will be 11 Edwardian themed costumes designed by Edinburgh College lecturer Anya Glinski. The students interpreted her designs and then used all their newly acquired skills, from pattern cutting to constructing the costumes. They used modern and historical principles of tailoring to reflect the fashions from a bygone era.

Costume for Stage and Screen student Holly Black said: “We’ve all worked really hard to bring Anya’s designs to life. It was a long but enjoyable process pulling the looks together and using new techniques. I’m looking forward to sharing our work with visitors to the theatre.”

Edinburgh College Performing Arts lecturer Liz McCafferty said: “Some of the group were a little daunted at the beginning of the project but they worked through each of the tasks step-by-step and have managed to produce the full silhouette of an Edwardian lady from head to hem – which is no easy feat. I can’t wait to see all of the costumes together in the theatre.”

Edwardian Costume for Performance is open daily from 10am-6pm, from 5 – 19 June at Festival Theatre, 13-29 Nicolson St, EH8 9FT and is free for all visitors.

Glow festival runs until 19 June, with a variety of performances and exhibitions across Edinburgh. Find out more: www.edinburghcollege.ac.uk/glow.
