A man responsible for killing his baby daughter in West Lothian has today been jailed at Glasgow High Court.
Traherne Wiliams was sentenced to six years and six months in prison for the culpable homicide of three-month-old Sophia Williams in Broxburn.
The infant sustained serious brain injuries after 23-year-old Williams shook her and threw her onto a couch while she was crying.
Sophia and her father had been staying within accommodation in Broxburn when she became unresponsive on 30th May 2016.
Paramedics attended at the address and she was taken to St John’s Hospital where she passed away on 5th June.
Police Scotland’s Major Investigation team led the inquiry into Sophia’s death and Traherne Williams was subsequently arrested and charged on 27th October. He pled guilty to culpable homicide at Glasgow High Court on Friday 4th May.
Detective Chief Inspector Rory Hamilton said, “The injuries inflicted upon Sophia Williams by her father left her with significant brain damage from which she could not recover.
“Traherne Williams was in charge of his daughter’s care and wellbeing and his despicable actions robbed her of her future.
“I would like to thank Sophia’s extended family for their support and co-operation and it is my sincere hope that the sentence handed to Williams offers them some form of closure so that they may begin to move on with their lives.”
