Cami Brown says his side must add to their away points tally this week if they are to keep up their challenge for the league play-offs.

The Tigers hit the road for Sheffield tomorrow then Workington on Saturday looking to build on their 100 per cent home record in the SGB Championship.

They’ve only raced twice away from Ashfield but picked up just one point and Brown says they’ll have to improve on that if they’re to keep their top-four place.

The trip to visit the reigning champions on Thursday is likely to be a bigger challenge, but the Glasgow boss wants to bring something up the road nonetheless.

He said: “Sheffield is a big test for us but it’s one we’re looking to get something from.

“We’re not going to go there thinking we’re going to get well beaten, though they have heavily beaten some good teams at home and that shows you their strength.

“We know it’s going to be difficult but we are planning to get something. We’ve changed the riding order a bit to see if that helps with pairings.”

Tigers drew at Workington in the Championship Shield earlier in the season and with the Comets having raced no home league fixtures yet, Brown wants to take advantage, particularly with the absence of teenage hotshot Dan Bewley.

He said: “We’re targeting at least a point at Workington. We need some away points and to keep winning at home, and that should keep us in and around the top four.

“I think our team can ride Workington just as well as we can at home. It’s one of those tracks all our riders like, other than Jack Thomas who’s only been there once, though he was getting the hang of it the last time.

“Our top five all go well there and James Sarjeant is desperately trying everything he can to get some form. He’s going to get some extra practice in and the lad is trying everything – and we’re trying everything we can to help him.

“If we’re to be around the play-offs or doing anything in the play-offs, we need James to be scoring. I don’t want to put massive pressure on him because the top five we’ve got is good enough to win most matches.

“But I don’t think any team with a strong top five always have those five riders scoring well – there are always one or two who have an off night – and in the good teams the reserves contribute six, seven, eight points.”

Newcastle veteran Stuart Robson guests tomorrow in place of Lewis Kerr who is racing for his Premiership team King’s Lynn.
