The man responsible for the death of James Gatti was jailed for nine years at the High Court in Edinburgh today.

Paul Beattie’s sentence was backdated to 31st July 2017, having previously been convicted of the culpable homicide of the 34-year-old.

On Saturday 29th July 2017, officers in Edinburgh attended at an address in Guardwell Glen, where Mr Gatti was found with serious injuries. He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.

Following an investigation by Corstorphine CID and supported by the Major Investigation Team, 46-year-old Beattie was quickly apprehended and subsequently charged.

Detective Inspector Bruce Coutts, who led this investigation said, “First and foremost, our thoughts and deepest sympathies remain with the family of James Gatti and it is my sincere hope that they can now begin the process of moving on with their lives.

“Paul Beattie subjected Mr Gatti to a brutal attack and inflicted upon him injuries, so serious, that he could not recover.

“Crimes of violence such as this will not be tolerated and during the investigation into Mr Gatti’s death, officers from both Corstorphine CID and the MIT have worked diligently alongside colleagues from the Crown Office to ensure Beattie was not only convicted for this crime, but given a custodial sentence.”
