Former Hibs’ winger Alex Harris has joined York City after being released by Scottish Championship club Falkirk.

Harris, 24, has made over 130 senior appearances in Scottish football and previously played for Hibs, Dundee, and Queen of the South.

He is best remembered for his performance and goal in Hibs’ amazing comeback from 3-0 down to beat Falkirk in the 2013 Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park. He also played in the final defeat to Celtic.

The following season, he suffered a serious injury in the opening fixture against Motherwell at Easter Road and was later involved in the swap deal that brought Martin Boyle from Dundee.

He was capped twice by Scotland at Under-19 level.

Caretaker-manager Sam Collins said: “Alex has been training with us for two weeks and I have been really impressed with how he has done.

“He scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Hartlepool last week and did well in another private game against Leeds on Tuesday afternoon.

“He is very attack-minded, very creative, and he fits in with the way we want to play. He is a right-footed forward player who is flexible enough to operate as a winger or in the number 10 role just off the front striker. He is a different type of player to what we have already got and his pedigree is also good.”

Harris goes straight into the City squad for Saturday’s FA Cup second qualifying round tie against Ashton Athletic at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 3pm).
