Edinburgh Monarchs spokesman Graham Muncie admitted that qualification for the end-of-season play-offs was now out of the Armadale side’s hands.

Muncie said it was now a case of waiting and watching for The Staggs Bar Monarchs after leaving the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium empty-handed following a 56-34 defeat in a key SGB Championship clash.

He said: “In all honesty, Monarchs got what they deserved as they were regularly out-gated and out-fought by a determined Tigers team whose season was on the line.”

He said there were bright spots with some tenacious rides by skipper Erik Riss, Josh Pickering and guest Broc Nicol, but the back-up was not there to mount a serious challenge.

And he added: “So, it is now out of Monarchs hands with three away points for Tigers over their final two away matches at Ipswich and Lakeside eliminating us (Edinburgh) from the play-offs.”

Tigers move on to 36 points and level with second-placed Workington Comets following their crushing victory over their arch rivals.

And former Edinburgh skipper Craig Cook was the inspiration with a 15-point maximum in a dominating display.

Skipper Chris Harris pitched in with 12 points from five outings as Edinburgh’s big guns failed to fire.

Riss scored seven points with Ricky Wells on six points and the biggest disappointment was Richie Worrall. He was cut by Tigers mid-season and was expected to produce on his former track but he scored one point.

Pickering top scored with ten points and guest Nicol (Sheffield Tigers) collected seven points.

Glasgow were 29-19 ahead after eight races and finished the opposition off with 5-1 scorelines in the final two heats.
