The Fishmarket at Newhaven opened before the summer by Roy Brett from Ondine and Gary Welch from Welch Fishmonger, has just won The Scotsman Food and Drink Awards for Best Newcomer.

With views over Newhaven Harbour and lovely bright premises to work from it is easy to see why this restaurant would be a winner.

Situated beside the fishmongers own premises the fish has to be fresh, and there is a good bus service close by, making it an easy night out even for those on the other side of town. A team of judges said The Fishmarket was the standout finalist.

Commenting on the win, Roy Brett said: “It’s an honour to be named as ‘Best Newcomer’ by our peers in the industry at The Scotsman Food and Drink Awards. We have worked hard to highlight the quality and availability of the very best seafood here in Scotland. This achievement is true testament to our great team, who aim to consistently deliver exceptional, fresh and local produce to our customers.”

The Fishmarket Co-Director, Gary Welch, added: “We’re thrilled to have been awarded this prestigious title having been open for just a few months. My family have been in the industry since the 1950’s and it’s fantastic to see the demand for Scottish produce is stronger than ever.”

The Fishmarket is open seven days a week from 11am to 10pm. For more information visit https://www.thefishmarketnewhaven.co.uk.
