Poetry Circus and The Jennifer Ewan Band join forces at Woodland Creatures in Leith, with a brand new Halloween cabaret that takes music and spoken word into darker places than they have previously dared to venture!

Murder Ballads is a non-stop badass medley of unsurpassable Cajun and Blues music (with a Scottish accent) paired with spoken word from some of the darkest performance poets in Britain.

Coupled with the artistic flair and suave production values of Poetry Circus,  Jennifer Ewan’s music plumbs the depths of the Blues and features new original songs plus her own unique arrangements of some of the darkest classics from artistes like Nick Cave and Bessie Smith.

Poetry Circus founder, Max Scratchmann said : “Murder Ballads is a new and bold juxtaposition of moody spoken word and down-and-dirty macabre music.

“At Poetry Circus we have always striven to add some theatre to the spoken word scene, and for this show our performers have all decided to ‘Goth up’ and bring their darkest material to the stage, coupled with some truly blood-curdling songs from Jen and the band…”

Elise Hadgraft – No stranger to Edinburgh and all the way from sunny Stockport, Elise Hadgraft (aka Corporation Pop) is a 2017 Scottish National Slam finalist, poet, punk vocalist, model and generally difficult artist.
