Edinburgh City fought back from going a goal behind to grab a late equaliser against Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle in their William Scottish Cup Third round tie at Ainslie Park on Sunday afternoon.

Kick-off at Ainslie Park

Liam Henderson steered the ball home four minutes from the end to secure a 1-1 draw against unbeaten in the league Caley Thistle – managed by Hearts legend John Robertson – meaning the teams will have to do it all again in a replay in Inverness in ten days’ time.

For the second week running City more than matched a side who are two divisions higher – last week City drew 2-2 with Alloa Athletic in the Irn Bru Cup before winning the penalty shoot-out – and few could begrudge them their late equaliser after Shaun Rooney had put the visitors in front just before half-time. It was an entertaining game for the crowd of 867 on a bitterly cold afternoon in north Edinburgh.

City and Caley Thistle will now play again on 4th December for the right to host Lowland League club East Kilbride in the fourth round.
