Australian rider Justin Sedgmen, who helped Edinburgh Monarchs win the league twice, has been confirmed as the Staggs Bar-backed club’s first signing for next season.

The 26-year-old helped win two league for the Edinburgh side in 2014 and 2015 and he declared: “They were the greatest two years of my racing career.”

His partnership with former No 1 Craig Cook was rated one of the club’s best ever and the popular racer, nicknamed Sedgy, also won the Scottish Open Championship in 2017 at Armadale.

Mildura-born Sedgmen. A former Australian under-16 Pairs champion, said: “I want to go back to Edinburgh and do a good job.

“Hopefully I can bring something to the table that and we can win some trophies. In those two seasons it was just so (much) fun. There was no pressure, we were just going out and having fun riding our bikes.”

Sedgmen, the son of former Aussie racer Gavin Sedgmen, is remembered by many fans for dancing on a table in the bar at Armadale after the second title win and he quipped: “Someone had to steal the show.”

The rider, who has also tracked for British sides Swindon Robins, Redcar Bears and Lakeside Hammers, said: “You can’t be on top for ever and Edinburgh have had three less successful years. I hope we can turn it round for 2019.”
