A crafty pupil from West Barns Primary School near Dunbar has seen her festive design transformed into Christmas cards, thanks to a major homebuilder.

CALA Homes (East) crowned seven-year-old Gracie Lowen Swan the winner of their festive competition, with her snowy Christmas design hugely impressing the developer’s sales team.

Featuring stockings, a Christmas tree and even a festive robin, packs of the cards have been given to the school to distribute, while residents at CALA’s nearby Castle Bay development will also see the design posted through their letterboxes.

While Gracie received the top prize of a voucher and the published cards, all of the Primary 3/4 pupils who submitted ideas were presented with selection boxes for their hard work and creativity.

Gill Whitford, Headteacher at the school, said: “It’s been a pleasure working with CALA Homes on their Christmas card competition. Pupils have enjoyed sketching and designing the cards and developing their collage skills through this fun project.

“The pupils in the Primary 3/4 class were delighted with the selection boxes from CALA Homes and Gracie is thrilled that her design will be posted through doors in the area. It has been a really good learning experience developing the children’s skills in art and technology based on the festive season that all the class have enjoyed.”

Philip Hogg, Sales and Marketing Director with CALA Homes (East), said: “We were so impressed by the creativity of all the pupils at West Barns Primary School.

“It was a tough choice to pick a winner, but Gracie’s design really stood out.”

“From everyone at CALA, we would like to say a big thank you to all the children who got involved and wish them all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
