Police in East Lothian can now confirm that a man’s body found in Musselburgh on Tuesday 5th February is that of John Muir.

The 33-year-old had been reported missing from his home in Musselburgh, having last been in contact with family at around 10.40pm on Thursday 31st January.

Search activity was conducted within East Lothian and at Vogrie Country Park in Midlothian, following a potential sighting.

Sadly, however, his body was discovered by a member of the public in the New Street area.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Inspector Jim Langsdale said: “Our deepest sympathies remain with John’s family and friends and we will continue to offer them any relevant support or assistance they may require.

“I would like to thank communities within Musselburgh and Midlothian who assisted with our missing person investigation over the past week.”
