Earlier in the week we set three of the curators at the National Museum of Scotland a challenge – to talk to us about only one of the items they have carefully placed in the new Exploring East Asia gallery which will open tomorrow.

We chatted with Dr Rosina Buckland who oversees the whole gallery, Dr Qin Cao who is the Curator of Chinese Collections and also Dr Louise Boyd who is Assistant Curator Japan about several of the 1330 items on display. It is always amazing how much the curators know!

We also spoke to Dr Gordon Rintoul, Director of the National Museum of Scotland, who has been in charge for much of the fifteen years it has taken to complete the £80 million makeover.

1330 items are on display in the three galleries, 40% of which have not been seen in a generation.
