Waverley Mall, Edinburgh will be hosting X Factor auditions this weekend for this year’s series which will be screened on STV in the Autumn.

The shopping centre has been attracting growing attention for its ongoing contribution to the Edinburgh unsigned music scene, and is one of just two Scottish venues to host the X Factor auditions this year.

The auditions will take place from 9am – 6pm on Saturday 9th February and 10am – 6pm on Sunday 10th February in a specially constructed pod on the centre’s lower mall, outside New Look.

Wannabe pop stars can simply turn up on their preferred day to take their turn in front of the casting crew. Anyone wanting to audition and who is aged 16 and older are welcome, but those under 18 years of age will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a valid form of ID.

The management of Waverley Mall believe it is the ideal venue to host the auditions (along with teams from the show’s producers ‘Thames’ (part of Fremantle) and ‘Syco’ TV), due to its central location and the close links to major transport connections.

You can reach the centre easily from Edinburgh Airport with Lothian Buses or Edinburgh Trams and from neighbouring towns and cities and those further afield by the rail network into Edinburgh Waverley Station.

Waverley Mall’s affinity with musical talent has been growing since the installation of a small stage in the centre’s food court 18 months ago, which has enjoyed increasing popularity with young individuals wishing to get their talent heard as well as local organisations looking to publicise their services. The stage was also recently taken over by The Youth Radio Network – an organisation dedicated to empowering youth through music, with their Youth Talent Showcase on two separate dates in the run up to Christmas.

The X Factor auditions are just another opportunity to get Edinburgh’s talented musicians recognised on a national (and global) scale.

Jacquelyn Stewart, Centre Manager, Waverley Mall says: “We’re really excited to be hosting this year’s official X Factor auditions. Part of our ongoing strategy at Waverley Mall is to create a venue that is rich in unique Scottish products, Scottish brands and Scottish talent, so this just further builds on our growing relationships within the Edinburgh music scene.”
