Last year Wardie Bowling Club chose Granton Youth Centre as their nominated charity.

At their annual charity race night they raised £2400 for the Centre which was matched by Lloyd’s Bank own charitable scheme.

The Centre asked the young people what they would like the money to be be spent on, and they decided it would be used for much needed resources and to keep money back for trips out during the summer.

Paul Carney of GYC explained : “So far we have spent £1800 on the resources and equipment suggested by the young people. For example – games, arts and crafts, sports equipments etc and already this is having a fantastic positive impact on our clubs.

The big cheque handover!

“The rest of the money shall be spent on more resources and we intend on keeping £1000 back to go towards our summer programme budget.”

The club is very active in the community and work with two local primary schools.

In addition they held a fun day for the local community and are already planning one for August 2019.

Local councillor George Gordon said : “The fun day is well organised and brings together the whole community old and young alike which helps to bring down barriers and preconceptions that maybe held.

“I am delighted to support and encourage this event a thank the club for showing great foresight in holding it.”

In the last twenty years the club has raised over £40,000 for local charities.
