Cannonball Restaurant and Bar on Edinburgh’s Castlehill has won the top Food Tourism accolade at the Catering in Scotland (CIS) Excellence Awards.

The awards recognise, reward and celebrate the exceptionally high degrees of creativity, innovation and excellence in the Scottish hospitality, catering and tourism sectors.

And Cannonball aim to create a destination restaurant which promotes the best Scottish food.

The restaurant has hosted over 10,000 international visitors as part of 385 separate special events, including partnerships with VisitScotland, Marketing Edinburgh, VisitBritain, United Airlines, Air France, USA, Canada, Asia and the European Union.

Victor and Carina Contini celebrated the win in the 100th anniversary of their family’s arrival in Edinburgh from Lazio in Italy.

Carina said: “This fantastic achievement is owed to the continued efforts of our outstanding team, suppliers and partners.

“We strive to champion independent family businesses in Scotland and still buy from some of the producers our grandparents worked with.

“We also stay true to our Italian Scots roots and maintain tradition and authenticity as part of our food-centric philosophy to attract custom and tourism to the local area.

Guests can now indulge in a traditional Scottish afternoon tea in the 16th-century townhouse dining room at Cannonball whilst enjoying unrivalled views of Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile and the city.

Previous accolades for Cannonball include being listed in the Good Food Guide 2017 and 2018, being named Newcomer of the Year in the Eating & Drinking Guide and Best Restaurant Experience as part of the Visit Scotland Taste Our Best Awards.
