Daniel Johnson Labour MSP for Edinburgh Southern and until today the Justice spokesperson on the Labour shadow cabinet at Holyrood has written to Labour Leader Richard Leonard withdrawing from the shadow cabinet.

Johnson cites as his reasons that he does not feel he can represent his constituents properly unless he can put forward the view that the UK should remain within the EU. He explained that his constituency voted 80% in favour of staying in the EU, over 20,000 people signed the Revoke Article 50 petition and where the electorate voted largely pro Remain parties.

He explains that Labour were fifth in the the European Parliamentary Election in 2019 as opposed to first at the last European election.

He withdraws from the cabinet so that he can ‘articulate and represent’ the views of his constituents.
