Craig Cook led from the front as success-hungry Glasgow Tigers came from behind to edge Newcastle Diamonds on Tyneside.

The Cumbrian-born racer powered to 14 points as the Scots won 46-44 courtesy of a last-heat decider.

The road win means Glasgow move on to 12 points from five fixtures in the Borders Group.

They are two points behind pace-setting Berwick Bandits with a match in hand.

Edinburgh Monarchs have six points and Newcastle three points and can’t qualify for the next stage.

Earlier, Newcastle and Glasgow were locked at 21-21 after Heat Seven but five races later the Tyneside team had edged 38-34 ahead.

A 5-1 in Heat 13 courtesy of Cook and Claus Vissing levelled the scores at 39-39.

And the teams drew the second-last heat 3-3 but Cook and Paul Starke earned a 4-2 in the final heat, which was re-run twice, to take the match by two points.
