SGB Championship: Sheffield Tigers 46, Berwick Bandits 44

Dany Gappmaier starred as Berwick Bandits just failed to land an SGB Championship double.

The Borders club edged Sheffield Tigers 46-44 at Berwick on Saturday but the Yorkshire side gained revenge with a similar scoreline in Sheffield on Sunday.

The sides were locked at 42-42 after 14 of the 15 heats in Yorkshire, Bandits having won the second-last race 5-1 courtesy of Gappmaier and guest Jordan Stewart.

But Sheffield rider Danny King won the last race from Gappmaier with Tigers’ racer Kyle Howarth third and Bandits’ Aaron Summers last to win the meeting.

King topped Tigers points with 12 followed by guest Cameron Heeps, who rides for Edinburgh Monarchs, on 11 points. Howarth also collected 11 points.

Gappmaier was best for Bandits with 14 points from six rides, including three heat wins.
Next best was Stewart with nine points.
