Edinburgh Leisure is undertaking some improvements to Drumbrae pool and Craiglockhart gym this summer.

Nicky Waterson, Director of Operations at Edinburgh Leisure said: ‘Whilst there is never a good time to close any of our centres, many of our venues are quietest during the summer, when people naturally take time to go away on holiday.

‘Although it seems only yesterday that Drumbrae underwent a £1 million plus refurbishment, this actually took place three years ago. There are some snagging issues from its previous refurbishment that need addressing. We’ll also be carrying out some essential maintenance work at Craiglockhart’s gym.’

At Drumbrae Leisure Centre, the pool area and changing rooms will be closed from 1 July 2019, with an expected reopening date of mid-August 2019. The other areas of Drumbrae Leisure Centre including its sports hall, cycling studio, gym and fitness studios will remain open during the refurbishment.

Areas being worked on at Drumbrae include:
• Repainting of the pool hall ceiling;
• Installation of a new pool plant and full filter replacement, which will reduce energy costs;
• Snagging of the wet change shower area; showers in the ladies’ dry side changing room; and tiling from the showers onto the poolside

Whilst the refurbishment is taking place, inconvenienced customers may use other Edinburgh Leisure centres across the city. Customers looking to swim can choose between Ainslie Park Leisure Centre, Dalry and Glenogle Swim Centres.

Edinburgh Leisure’s popular holiday club at Drumbrae will run but swimming will not be offered. There will be no summer swimming holiday lessons.

At Craiglockhart, its gym will be closed from 15 July until mid-August for essential maintenance on the gym flooring. It will include an aesthetic upgrade to the feel of the gym, by repainting of the walls, new vinyls and an improved layout to provide more room for gym-based classes.

The studios and tennis facilities at Craiglockhart will remain open. However, parking is expected to be reduced during this period.

As part of the biggest club in town, customers are never far from another Edinburgh Leisure venue. The nearest gym facilities to Craiglockhart are Warrender Swim Centre and Dalry Swim Centre.
