A care home in Edinburgh helped a resident to surprise her grandson at his wedding recently.

Care UK’s Cairdean House, on Redford Road, stepped in to ensure that one of their residents, Edith, made it to her grandson Finlay’s wedding in style.

In true Cinderella fashion, the team at Cairdean House helped Edith with her hair and makeup, and drove up with her to Auchmithie, near Arbroath, to go to the ceremony.

Claire Carson and Louise Ross, team members at Cairdean House, then stayed with Edith throughout the day to ensure she received appropriate care.

Home manager at Cairdean House, Gillian Goodall, said: “We always like to go the extra-mile for residents here at Cairdean House, and like to make their wishes come true, no matter how big or small.

“When logistics got in the way of Edith attending to her grandson’s wedding, we knew we had to step up, so we decided to help her get ready and stay with her on the day. It was incredible to see Edith’s face light up when she saw her grandson walk down the aisle, and humbling to be a part of such a special day for Edith and her family.”

Gilly, Edith’s daughter-in-law, said: “We can’t thank Cairdean House enough for bringing Edith to the wedding – Louise and Claire were superb. Fin and his wife Christina were so delighted she was there!”

Cairdean House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite.
