From Friday the new PORTA Waterfront Market will be open to the public.

There will be a range of artisan arts, crafts and confectionery offered by LocalMotive Markets and Events. Independent makers, designers and food producers will combine in setting up the new market in the Ocean Terminal shopping mall next to The Royal Yacht Britannia.

Soon the mall is to be renamed PORTA and in November the market will turn into a Christmas market every weekend.

Tania Pramschufer, director of social action events company LocalMotive Markets said: “This in an incredible opportunity for the Leith community to show off their local produce to both visitors and residents of the City. The diversity that this market will bring to Ocean Terminal will be a huge positive and create a completely different side of shopping from the great brands that are available at the shopping centre.”

Bakery Andante which is run in Leith by Jon Wood will have a stall at the new market. Michel Russo of Tipico who has been running a pop up at Leith Walk Police Box for some months are just two of the producers who are set to show off their wares at the new Waterfront Market.

A star-studded event is being hosted by Ocean Terminnsal General Manager Dennis Jones this evening attended by The Rt Hon Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh, Ben Macpherson MSP, TV presenter Gail Porter and celebrity chef Tony Singh.
