Scottish rock ‘n’ roll icons Primal Scream made their Summer Sessions debut in Princes Street Gardens tonight, with Edinburgh Castle as their backdrop.

Storming on stage to ‘Movin’ On Up’ and straight into ‘Jailbird’ , frontman Bobby Gillespie, kitted out in full electric pink suit, had the crowd in the palm of his hand as he said “Edinburgh, are you ready to rock’n’roll?”, taking the fans on a journey spanning over 30 years of incomparable music.

Supported by the one and only Johnny Marr, it was a truly once in a lifetime night for fans of rock ’n’ roll in Edinburgh. The legendary guitarist played classics like ‘Bigmouth Strikes Again’ and ‘Getting Away With It’ and got Saturday night at Summer Sessions off to an outstanding start. With a quick stop for Edinburgh’s thunder and lightning, Johnny Marr made an epic return to the stage with a very welcomed performance of ‘This Charming Man’, saying “Rain or no rain, it’s Saturday night”. No need to say more – the crowd were with him all the way. Ending his set with a mass singalong to ‘There is a Light That Never Goes Out’.

There are six shows left in Summer Sessions’ Princes Street Gardens edition with Scottish synth-pop maestros CHVRCHES taking to the stage tomorrow night while Lewis Capaldi, James, Courteeners and Madness continue the festivities next week. Remaining tickets on sale from WWW.SMMRSESSIONS.COM
