The Staggs Bar Monarchs have signed James Sarjeant who was cut by Glasgow Tigers despite scoring eight points as the West of Scotland club won at Somerset Rebels in midweek to go top of the SGB Championship.

The Sheffield-based, 24-year-old will make his Monarchs’ debut on Friday against Scunthorpe Scorpions (tapes-up 7.30pm) partnering Sam Masters.

Sarjeant has made 24 previous appearances at Armadale and knows the track well.

He boasts a best score of 12 points and two bonus points and at the end of last season he guested for Monarchs in the KO Cup semi-final and scored seven points.

James said he enjoys racing at Edinburgh but the newcomer admitted he has been inconsistent this season. He feels he can get back on track.

The arrival of Sarjeant means that reserve Matt Marson is released after only one home and one away match.

Alex Harkess, Monarchs co-promoter, said “He did absolutely nothing wrong and was a pleasure to have in the team.”
